How to Sing High Notes Without Straining

Even if you’ve been blessed with the natural talent or ability to sing, it still takes quite a lot of practice so that your voice can be developed fully. A lot of people take up voice lessons to learn the proper techniques when singing. The most common problem that many singers face is how to effortlessly reach the higher notes. If you have a voice trainer then this is something you can work on with them, but if not it may take a bit of trial and error. Here are some tips on how to sing high notes without straining:

How to Sing High Notes Without Straining•    Always warm up your voice. This is the first thing that you have to do before moving on to singing. To warm up your voice you should first hum for about 5 to 10 minutes. Humming will make the vocal chords vibrate moderately thereby preparing it for proper singing later on. You can also sing lightly and softly if you don’t like humming. Just don’t overdo it when you’re starting out so that your vocal chords will not be over stressed.

•    Practice your breathing pattern. When you are singing you should make use of your diaphragm. Breathing correctly will force you to sing longer notes as you will not immediately run out of air. To breathe correctly the stomach must rise first before your chest. Doing so will expand the diaphragm so that you will have more air to exhale.

•    Exercise your facial muscles. This is one of the most common procedures that some singers overlook. If you skip the facial muscle exercises there is a high chance that your jaw will hurt, especially when you begin to sing high notes and you have to open your mouth wide. You can exercise these muscles by making various funny faces and by stretching out your tongue as far as it will go.

•    Begin singing on the range that you are comfortable in, then gradually go higher. Do not immediately go to a high note from a low note for the first few minutes so that your vocal chords will not be strained.

•    Take your time. Do not pressure yourself to sing in a short span of time. Practicing should be gradual as well as constant. Make sure that you have a schedule for practicing and stick to it so that you will be able to improve. It may be hard at first but with constant practice you will find yourself able to sing high notes easily.
