Patio Umbrella Lights for the Outdoors

Adding some spice to your patio area may seem like a daunting task.  One of the most challenging aspects of patio design is perhaps the effective lighting it needs in terms of both functional and aesthetic value.  Though it is indeed difficult, making an effective lighting effect is now not as hard as it used to be thanks to new designing marvels that are now available.  Outdoor patio umbrella lights are just one of these.

You may have experienced how difficult it is to light your patio tables because of your helpful, yet sometimes bothersome, patio umbrellas.  The umbrellas usually block your patio lights and while folding them can easily solve the problem, doing so will oftentimes be cumbersome and annoying.  Thus, even though the umbrellas provide shade during the day and provide shelter when it rains, they tend to be a nuisance at night because they will be left shielding your night light as well.  This is where the wonders of a patio umbrella light come in.

Patio umbrella lights are a perfect solution to the problems stated above.  Having one will save you from any unnecessary annoyances you may have when dealing with your patio lighting dilemmas.  However, once you go check out what kind of patio umbrella you will be buying, it is not uncommon for first time buyers to feel quite overwhelmed with the various styles of umbrella lights available. Now, this is where your skills as designer come in.  You will have to determine what will work best in your patio and what is it that you are really looking for.

Types of Umbrella Lights

One kind of patio umbrella light is the one that rests at the base of the umbrella.  Its design is usually composed of a hole in the center where the base of the table umbrella can rest.  Beside this center hole, light bulbs directed in an outward angle are present.  Once turned on the light will be coming from underneath the table; giving off a nice and mild subtle lighting for you and your guests.  Another type of patio lighting available is the one specifically designed to be placed on top of the table itself.  This type has a hinge that is secured to the umbrella’s pole.  From this hinge, the light itself can then be opened or closed as desired by the occupants of the table.  The light usually used by table-top patio lights is LED to help preserve energy; thus maintaining longer hours of lighting.  The only downside of this is that they run on battery power.  This means you will have to constantly check and change the battery as needed to continue on having an equally distributed light from your LED lamp.  The last type is the one which can be attached near the top of the umbrella, but underneath its flap.  Basically this works with the bulbs hanging on the spars underneath the umbrella.  Just like the previous type, this variety commonly uses LED lights as well.  With this, the light is coming directly from above to the table set-up.
